Which Fault Threatens Me Most? Bridging the Gap Between Geologic Data-Providers and Seismic Risk Practitioners

The aim of the Fault2SHA European Seismological Commission Working Group Central Apennines laboratory is to enhance use geological data in fault-based seismic hazard and risk assessment promote synergies between providers (earthquake geologists), end-users decision-makers. Here we Database where geologic are provided form characterized fault traces, grouped into faults main faults, with individual slip rate estimates. proposed methodology first derives profiles for each fault. Main then divided distinct sections length comparable seismogenic depth allow consideration variable rates exploration multi-fault ruptures computations. further allows epistemic uncertainties documented database (e.g., definition, rates) as well additional parameters required characterize potential sources 3D geometries). To illustrate power methodology, this paper consider only one branch affecting step computation procedure. resulting typological maps both 1) visualize that threaten specific localities most, 2) appreciate density observations used profiles, 3) interrogate degree confidence on (activity location certainty). Finally, closing loop, highlights priorities future investigations terms improvements within would lead greatest decreases calculations. Key new generation user-friendly open source codes publication, documenting, step-by-step, link relative contribution section at localities.
